These procedures have been designed to guide the response of all professionals who have a responsibility for children within the statutory, private of voluntary sector within Kent who come into contact with children and young people under the age of 18 who are sexually active in an ostensibly consensual  relationship. The overarching aim is to provide a framework for ensuring that potential crimes against children are investigated without unnecessarily drawing underage parties into the criminal justice system or deterring young people from accessing sexual health services.
